Inviting Virtual Walkers for 2019

20108505 - trekking break with shoes offWell it’s almost the end of July and we’ll soon be saying, “OneWalk is next month!”
Time is sure marching on! Between the rain earlier in the summer and the heat and humidity, walking has been a challenge for many of us. We still have 40+ days left before the walk and we know we can do this.

Fundraising
Fundraising has also been really hard for several people, but we can do this too. Most of us have done it before and we’ll do it again! Let’s get letters to our donors. Here is a little reminder for them of why we do this – in addition to our personal reasons of which you’ve probably already told them. Feel free to copy and share with your potential donors in your next email.
How Our Funds are Used
The PMCC relies on the funds raised from OneWalk, the Ride to Conquer Cancer and Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer to support:

-Patients going through diagnoses, treatments and beyond
-Families dealing with their loved ones going through the above
-Research into new treatments and methods of diagnoses
-Development of new drugs
-Purchases of the latest equipment for diagnosis and treatment of the many different types of cancer (over 240 discovered so far. That is not a misprint!)
-The development of personalized treatments (PMCC leads cancer research centers in this area)
-Sharing information throughout Canada and communities in other parts of the world who may have little support of their own.

The PMCC does not operate in a vacuum. All cancer centres are part of a huge team working toward seeing our world cancer free.
Where Do We Get This Information?
Your team captains have had two visits to the PMCC recently. We shared video highlights, “Future Care Now,” in our last email. This is the link in case you missed it: https://youtu.be/RojL71PS9Ic

Last month we attended a “Behind the Scenes” tour of two labs at the PMCC. We saw the lab of Dr. Tak Mak, our brilliant and world renowned director of research and the lab where our technologists work on the latest equipment they have to assist them with personalized treatment plans. Researchers and technologists spoke to us at length describing the work being done. The funds we raise ensure they have the upgrades they need.
Our lives may depend on it.

Virtual Walkers

If you have friends or family members who can’t do the walk for any one of a number of reasons, this may be for them. Here is how it works.
Register as a virtual walker by calling our walker coach, Shasa at 416-628-6255. Shasa is very helpful. Tell her you want to walk as a virtual walker for Butterfly of Hope.
There is no registration fee.
Minimum funds to raise – $100. More would be great and the funds go to the team.
Plan your own route – 15 km, 25 km or 40 km– and walk in your own community or somewhere of your choosing.
Form a team to walk under Butterfly of Hope or walk on your own.
It’s that easy!
