| We have a small team this year, just eight walkers. But with under three weeks to go before our big day we have raised $12,315, just a tad under half of our $25,000 goal and in the top ten community teams–just! Let’s give a big push now to reach that goal and try to stay in the top ten for fundraising as we usually do! BREAKING NEWS! FRIDAY EVENING FUN IS BACK! Those of us who have walked since the beginning of the Weekend to End Breast Cancer, remember the excitement of Day Zero, the day that we met on the Friday before the weekend to: |
- socialize, making new friends and greeting old friends
- exchange stories and memories (and possibly to have an open mic session for that)
- have some nibbles and refreshments
- listen to, and maybe even dance to the music
- pick up our kits for the walk
What a great way to begin our event!
Location This Year: Harbourfront Centre
When: Friday, Sept. 8
Time: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR A SUCCESSFUL WALK – Starting Now!
These are essential

Good Shoes and Socks
Shoes are good for 500-600 kilometres when you’re doing long walks. If you need new shoes, get them now. Bring an extra pair of socks to change at lunchtime during the Walk.

Training Walks
Your longest training walk should be soon. Make it 2-5 km shorter than the distance you plan to walk (e.g., 15 km for a 20 km walk). Start gearing down after that, and alternate distances. Train in all kinds of weather – heat, wind, rain and perfectly lovely! Train with a buddy, especially for the longer walks.

Walk Necessities
- sunscreen
- bug spray
- hat
- water bottle
- sunglasses (let’s be optimistic!)
- rain poncho (depending on the forecast) – a dollar store one in a small bag is ideal
- cell phone
Bonus Swag for Reaching $2000+
Walkers get handsome t-shirts this year, commemorating the neighbourhoods we’ll visit. Those completing 5, 10, 15 or 20+ events also receive milestone hats. In addition, anyone who raises $2000 or more earns a bronze, silver or gold lanyard!
