| We are so pleased that so many of you have continued through difficult years to participate in events for very worthwhile causes; many in which you have been participating in person over the years with Butterfly of Hope. We have, for the past few years, been trying to figure out a way to build on Chad’s Legacy and to honour a promise that I made to him that we would keep Butterfly of Hope alive when he was no longer here to do so. It has been five years since his passing and we have realized that walking 20 or 40 kilometres is not something to which we can all commit. In the past we have had Butterfly of Hope teams in many events; the Relay for Life, The Ride to Conquer Cancer, Hockey to Conquer Cancer, The Weekend to Conquer Cancer and The Walk for Alzheimer’s. Chad was involved in all of these and led most of them with help from others. It has been five years since his passing, and we have realized that walking 20 or 40 kilometres is not something to which we can all commit. In the past we have had Butterfly of Hope teams in many events: the Relay For Life, The Ride to Conquer Cancer, Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer, The Weekend to Conquer Cancer and the Walk for Alzheimer’s. Chad was involved in all of these and led most of them with help from others. Last year Cathy put a Butterfly of Hope team in The Journey to Conquer Cancer and is doing so again this year. As well as these we have been walking for several years with the Coldest Night of the Year for the hurting and homeless. We know that many of you have supported these and other charities as well. We applaud you for doing such important work. We hope that you will help us now to grow our teams under the Butterfly of Hope umbrella by bringing friends and family members with you. There is something for everyone, often in events in many cities across the country. We are hoping that some people who cannot walk or ride in the longer events would be interested in joining us in The Journey and also involving your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews or friends. It is a great way to get children, teens and others started on fundraising and doing so under the name Butterfly of Hope. If you are interested in doing The Journey this year to get a feel for it, please reach out to us for more information, or go online to get the info. Join us on Butterfly of Hope. This is the Journey’s tenth anniversary and promises to be amazing with a beautiful start and finish being at University of Toronto’s Varsity Stadium! If you are interested in doing The Ride yourself or in supporting someone who does, please reach out to Chris Wallwork. Chris has participated as a Butterfly for many years in different events and this year will be doing The Ride. Chris is committed to ride with his team but plans to wear a Butterfly of Hope shirt to honour Chad’s memory and legacy. Chris was like a son to Chad and they participated together on Butterfly of Hope teams in many events over the years. We are aware that many of you continue to do events to support some very worthy causes, some events that we did with our Papa Butterfly and others in which you have a personal interest. During the COVID years most of the events became virtual and a lot of us continued to participate closer to home. Most of us also participated as a Butterfly of Hope team member. Teams do not have to be large. You can participate as a family, group of friends or even individually as a Butterfly. We are hoping to keep Chad’s legacy alive for many years while we are making a difference to various charities and the people they support. We can’t do this by ourselves. We really need your help getting teams going again from sea to sea to sea! To get you started, below are links with more information about some of these events. Thank you so much to Butterflies who have already participated in or registered for an event in 2023 and to those who have already donated to one or more. YOU. Are making a difference! |
