That time again! Walk Day is Sept. 11/2021

Thanks to all who have met their target of $500 or more and to those who have recruited another walker.  We’re half way to our goal!

  • NEW — We are holding a $50 Amazon gift card for one lucky walker who brings us a new Butterfly who commits to raising $500!  If there is more than one person who does this, we will do a draw.
  • DEADLINE for the draw is SEPT. 1

Training Walks

Hopefully everyone has been training and is almost ready to go.

BUT- We have had DANGEROUS AIR QUALITY in parts of Canada, so please don’t push yourself.  You might have to lower your expectations regarding distance and time.

SAFETY is our first concern

For those walking with us in Toronto, we are very lucky to have help.

Cyclist Chris W., long-time friend of Butterfly of Hope, has offered to follow us along the route.  On a bike he can get to all of the places where we walk and our sweep vehicle has no access.

Jane A. returns to sweep for us this year and will meet us at various stops along the way.  She will keep in touch in case anyone needs help.

If you are walking independently, make arrangements to have someone drive, cycle or walk with you.  Make sure that your phone is charged to contact help if necessary.

Remember to HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE!

Pit Stops

There will be four pass-through stations for water and snacks in Toronto.

Locations:
1. Princess Margaret Cancer Centre
2. The Bentway (near Fort York)
3. Balmy Beach (east of Kew Gardens)
4. Sir Casimir Gzowski Calisthenics Park (on Lake Shore Boulevard West)

Try to plan your route so that you can stop into at least one of these themed stations.  They will be fun and provide a nice break.

Zooming Coast to Coast Again

Butterflies are invited to join a short Zoom call to connect the team across Canada.

When: Sept. 11, 2021@ 12:30 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)

Register in advance for this Zoom call and get reminders.

Thinking Ahead – The Walk’s 20th Anniversary

The Walk has raised almost $200 million for cancer research and programs since its inception!

Plans are already underway for a big celebration. We hope to see many, many Butterflies back for this great walk and party!  Stay tuned for details after September and tell your family and friends.

We look forward to seeing you in person or on Zoom soon.
