Seven Weeks to Go!

Wow! Where did the last ten months go since most of us registered for OneWalk? Congratulations to those who have achieved their minimum in fundraising, are working on reaching their goal and are training hard in a year that is very hot and humid for most of us.
Here is some information to get you up to date on team happenings.
Team Shirts
Thanks for responding to our last request for orders. These have been sent in to Tanya to be processed. Most of you have sent Barb the money for your shirts but if you haven’t please do so now.
Very few peo
ple sent their addresses for mailing. Please do that as well if you want them mailed.
Crew and Volunteers Needed
Butterfly of Hope is doing a great job of recruiting crew members for the walk but we understand that many more are needed. If you have family or friends that are willing to help out please contact me.
Fund Raising
- Walkers
- Minimum $1500 – up to 25 kms
- $2000.00 for 40 or 55 kms
- Crew
Asking for $500 or as much as you can raise. Every little bit helps, as you know. If you are crewing you can choose what you do. So far all those who are crewing have been placed as sweeps or at lunch on Saturday and the Ontario Place pit stop on Friday.
If you have friends that wish to join the crew please have them call Shasa at 416-628-5255. Then she can transfer them to Alex to be put on the lunch and/or pit stop teams.
- Volunteers
No need to raise funds but they will be placed where needed.
Training
- Schedule
Our Schedule is available on the OneWalk web site calendar along with the walks being run by Shasa from OneWalk. We’d love to see you out for any of these. We will be there at the Scarborough Bluffs this Saturday and at the Toronto Island walk Aug. 18th.
You can get an idea as to where you should be at in terms of distance by looking at our walks if you are doing the longer ones.
Important! Your longest training walks should be done three weeks prior to the walk – i.e. a month from now. Train for back to back walks with a shorter one the first day each time if you are doing both days.
Train up to five kms short of what you are doing on the walk. (e.g. if you are doing 15 Friday plus 40 Saturday train up to 10kms plus 35 kms back to back.)
Clothing
Don’t wait until the walk to break in new clothing, shoes and socks. Try to wear shorts/pants with no seams. Spend money to get good socks and shoes. It beats getting blisters or losing toenails! A really good pair of running shoes should last only 500-700 kms. Who said walking is cheap?
Responses to Request for Information
Please complete the information form (boh-information-form-2018rev1)(also sent in the last email) and respond to all of it, not just the shirt requests. We need information to make plans.
Thanks to Cathy C
Cathy is one of our great longtime teammates and she has offered to help us out with communication. The new email format is hers. She’s working on a web site. We are so grateful! Thank you Cathy!
Thanks to Harold Denov and Harold’s Harems for their Support
Harold’s team wants to honour Chad by walking with us on Friday evening. They are long time friends and we so appreciate their support!
Tribute to Chad
Pub Evening
This was hosted at the Brogue Irish Pub in Mississauga by the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation to honour Chad. It was a super evening! Thanks to Karen Adams for organizing this event and to Christine Lasky for joining her to represent the Foundation. This is the pub where Butterflies and friends often gathered together to celebrate events and successes with Chad.
